How Can You help? The Partnership for Gender-Specific Medicine at Columbia University is dedicated to advancing the science of the difference between the sexes. Until the 1990s, virtually all medical research was done in men; doctors assumed the results would be identical for women. That turned out to be wrong. The more we learn about gender, the more we come to understand that males and females are significantly different in every system of the body. They even experience illness in unique ways. Discovering and learning about these differences will help us develop specific and more effective treatments for all patients.Government and industry have taken important steps to change research and take gender into consideration. But more work is needed to accomplish our goals! By supporting the Partnership for Gender-Specific Medicine at Columbia University, you help ensure that future generations of men and women will benefit from our research and receive the best possible care.
