The Partnership for Gender-Specific Medicine at Columbia is dedicated to learning more about the differences in women's and men's normal physical function and the unique ways in which each sex experiences disease. In doing this, the Partnership can improve the health of people throughout the world. It will achieve this in two ways:
- Research that produces a better understanding of the differences between men and women
- Communicating the new knowledge to health care professionals and the public
Where do we go from here?
The Partnership will use the following strategies to realize its goals:
- Creating Educational Programs
The Partnership is developing comprehensive educational programs for both health care professional and the public. These include newsletters, journals for the professional and for the public, educational brochures and videotapes, surveys, lectures and symposia that address specific problems or questions of interest. We will be an authoritative source for accurate, complete and current information about gender-specific medicine.
- Supporting Research
The Partnership encourages and supports scientists who are concentrating on gender-specific investigation. It will do this by giving grants directly and by working with the private sector, particularly the corporations supporting the Partnership, to encourage their funding of research projects.
