Helping Girls Become Strong Women: Curriculum

By Ann Kearney-Cooke, Ph.D., Distinguished Scholar

Partnership for Women’s Health at Columbia University

The "Helping Girls Become Strong Women: Curriculum" was developed by Dr. Kearney-Cooke for the Partnership for Women’s Health at Columbia University and is available through the Partnership for $325. The curriculum is divided into two parts. Designed for mentors and adolescents, it includes breakout sessions on Developing a Positive Body Image, Goal Setting, Dealing With Stress, and Helping Adolescent Girls Develop Healthy Relationships. Included with each breakout session are worksheets, group discussion guidelines, tips for mentors, and tips for young girls.

The curriculum is based on the successful national program, "Helping Girls Become Strong Women," held annually in cities across the country. The curriculum is designed to be included in regular health classes. A parallel program for adolescent boys is in development.
